Drury University catcher and first baseman Nic Perkins was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 28th round of the Major League Baseball draft. Perkins (6'4", 215 pounds) was named a second team All-Midwest Region selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and won first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors this season. The junior from St. Charles, Missouri hit .355 with eight home runs and a team-leading 49 runs batted in. He hit 11 doubles and posted a slugging percentage of .528. He proved to be one of Drury's best clutch hitters in 2017 as he hit .471 in the GLVC tournament going 8 for 17 at the plate with four RBI's in four games. Perkins hit .426 with runners in scoring position and 14 of his RBI's came with two outs in an inning.
